On Thursday 10th December 2015, VSO ran the biggest pre-assessment day since the IVO4ALL project started. We had 16 volunteers attend the day along with mentors and staff supporting the delivery of the day. During the day we covered team building activities, interview techniques and confidence building. Volunteers also had the chance to explore what international volunteering involves and what they hope to gain from the experience. Over the course of the day it was clear that the sessions delivered really supported each volunteer to develop new skills and leave the day feeling more confident about their participation on the ICS programme.
From the end of day evaluations we found that 100% of young people know more about the ICS programme and also 90% feel more prepared for the next stage of the journey. When asked about the main thing they’d learnt from the day, one volunteer said, “I have learnt that I don’t need to be worried about going overseas and that I will have a great and supportive environment before and after I go on ICS.” Staff members found the young people to be passionate about helping others which was really inspiring for everyone involved in supporting the day.
